We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of anxiety and many questions come to mind. We need to continue to be vigilant but also one needs to be careful in processing information that may be confusing or cause panic. It is good to validate information and seek out reliable sources so we can take appropriate actions during this unprecedented time.

One of the questions that often arise during the pandemic is about disinfectant, what actually needs to be done and how often.

Disinfection is to prevent the coronavirus from spreading through droplets. Droplets come out of the human body through coughing, sneezing, and so on. Then, the droplets can stick in various places, and objects that are often touched by humans.

Here are some facts regarding the spraying of disinfectants or cleaners, indoors and public spaces. Remember to use chemicals or any disinfectants in a careful manner.

1) Indoors, at your home
• Simply disinfect areas that are often touched by family members, including the door handles, railing stairs, fridge handles, light switches, countertops, water faucet, toilets, home telephones, chairs on the terrace, patio tables. Clean every 5-6 hours, the more often the better.
• Mop the floor with the cleaning liquid, no need to be disinfected.
• Clean other surfaces in your home when they are visibly dirty or as needed.
• For regular cleaning you may use mixed water and soap or water with detergent, however, if someone is sick, you need to thoroughly disinfect the house using appropriate disinfectants.

2) Public Spaces
• Office desk
• ATM machine
• Dining tables in the restaurant
• Shared work tools

With the increase of COVID-19 cases, many residents have asked that outdoor areas such as the road and trees around the houses to be disinfected. Is it necessary?

Actually, spraying disinfectants on the road, sidewalks, on trees and people are not recommended. There are ineffective, in addition, spraying on humans can be dangerous and even cause poisoning. Spraying disinfectants over large areas repeatedly can cause environmental pollution too and should be avoided. Meanwhile, outdoors, the virus exposed to sunlight will die quickly; it is better to spray or disinfect a room or a place that is often touched and occupied by people for a long time. But the most important thing is to always follow the health protocols.

Take good care always and be healthy.
