Weather Update. Rainy Season Is Here.

Post Image Yes, rainy season is here. You might not yet experience the heavy rainfall in the city but in certain parts of Indonesia this October, the monsoon season has arrived.

According to BMKG, the months of September to October 2020 is still in the transition season (pancaroba). This means that rainfall is uneven with moderate to heavy intensity within short duration.

It’s time though to watch out for the potential of extreme weather. Heavy rains of short duration accompanied by lightning and strong winds, tornadoes, and even the phenomenon of hail in some areas are weather events to be prepared for. Extreme weather can cause other effects such as floods, puddles, strong winds, fallen trees and even cause utility poles to come down.

Trees are also being carefully taken care of to ensure that old branches do not break and fall on the road, vehicles or even pedestrians during a windstorm. A Tree Pruning Program by TMD is now underway. Tall trees where the branches are either too thick or already bent too low can pose danger. Hence, our landscape specialists from TMD Environmental Team are keeping a close monitor on every tree in its inventory to make sure they are healthy and strong.

What can residents do to prepare in their home before the rainy season is fully here?

1)
Do a check of all drains and sewers around the house to make sure that there is no waste or plastics or dried leaves inside which can cause water clogs. Keep drains clean at all times.

2) Check the landscape and trees within your property area. Plantings and trees inside the individual’s property areas are your own responsibility. Start trimming the trees you have planted. In addition to safety, pruning trees also give the chance for trees to grow beautifully. There is no need to cut down the whole tree, but simply removing some branches for healthy growth. You can do this regularly when the tree is still young. Constant care will increase the surrounding airflow needed to keep the tree healthy and improves the quality of fruit or flowers produced.

Here are some guidelines to check the trees in your property area. Watch out for these carefully and take quick action if you find one or more of these conditions:

1) weathered roots - characterized by fungal growth around the outer stem
2) porous rootstock - due to termites
3) yellowing leaves - from too much rain or the tree is dying
4) mouldy tree bark

If you need advice or seek our assistance, please contact the TMD Call Center at (021) 55 777 557 and ask for our environmental officer to do an inspection. They will be happy to assist you on how to take care of your trees.

Give your trees loving care!
